On Thursday, March 19, Indian Land Middle School will be playing host to a Community Day for all three Indian Land schools from 8:30 a.m. until 10 a.m. The goal of the event is to bring together school officials and the community to discuss the current needs of the school as well as issues related to future growth.

All three principals will be making presentations during the meeting, which will also feature musical performances by groups in all three schools. Refreshments will be served and time for networking will be set aside after the meeting. They are seeking RSVPs so that they can get an approximate headcount, so if you’d like to attend, you have until March 12 to let Ms. Loughry know you’ll be in attendance. You can reach her at 803-578-2500.

According to the Fort Mill Times, Indian Land High School will add one more foreign language to their roster: sign language. The school currently only offers Spanish as a foreign language, and students have expressed interest in the added course.

South Carolina currently classifies sign language as an elective, however, the officials are in the process of reclassifying it as a foreign language so it can be included in schools across the state.

No word yet on whether the other schools in York County will be adding sign language to their foreign language offerings, but if the classes at Indian Lane are successful, one can predict the other area schools will be quick to get on board!
