Just an FYI that the Fort Mill Playhouse is playing host to a theater group that is presenting “Nuncrackers” for three weekends in December (Dec 3-6, 11-13, 18 & 19), with performances starting tonight.

This is not a Fort Mill Community Playhouse production, but you may use the playhouse’s web site to charge tickets or make reservations for this fun winter production.

Two plays start their 2-weekend run today. First up, the Fort Mill Playhouse is featuring “The Dixie Swim Club” which begins tonight at 7:30 p.m. The show runs this weekend and next weekend and looks to be a lot of fun. It stars a few locals – Carol Weiner, Jennifer Hubbard, Elyse Williams, Constance Collins and Karen Lee. For more information about tickets or showtimes, call (803) 548-8102.

For one weekend only, Fort Mill High Chorus Department is presenting the musical “The Wedding Singer,” based on the funny Adam Sandler movie that co-starred Drew Barrymore. The musical originated on Broadway and had decent reviews, so I’m sure the FMHS chorus is going to have a great time putting on this production. Looking for a way to pass the day today (Saturday, Sept 26) just in case the weather holds out?

* There are two neighborhood yard sales. Waterstone off Rte 160 and Gold Hill Road is having a neighborhood sale today, and there are also yard sales in Tara Plantation (which is a small older subdivision across the street from the Tega Cay Wal Mart). CORRECTION: Waterstone’s neighborhood yard sale is Saturday, October 3 – NOT today. My apologies for any confusion.

* Tonight in Tega Cay you can catch the Fantastic Shakers playing music at Runde Park in the fourth of the Summer Concert Series. The DJ starts at 6 p.m. and there will be kids activities available. Food and drinks will be sold by vendors at the park. No grills allowed. No pets allowed. This event is NOT BYOB.

* Tonight is the last night of the Fort Mill Playhouse’s dinner theater production of “Play On.”. Call (803) 548-8102 to buy your tickets for this fun production!

* Baxter Village is having it’s Fourth Annual Block Party today. The party runs all day beginning at 11 a.m. and includes music, food and drink, exhibitors, and kids activities.

So despite the threat of rain today, there is still plenty to do today! So grab your umbrella (just in case) and have a great day!

I think having dinner theater available right here in Fort Mill is fantastic. This month, Fort Mill Playhouse is presenting “Play On,” by Rick Abbott. It’s the tale of theater group trying desperately to put on a play in spite of maddening interference from a haughty authoress, who keeps revising the script even up till the show’s opening. Anything that can go wrong, does.

Because this is being offered as a dinner theater production, advanced reservations are required (they have to know how much food to make!). The dinner, which is courtesy of Catering Affairs, will include a garden salad w/choice of 3 Dressings, herb-stuffed chicken breast, broccoli casserole, corn souffle, fresh bread w/butter, iced Tea/water, and dessert & coffee at intermission. In addition to dinner, they are offering a cash bar from 6:30 – 7:00 p.m. at the evening shows.

When I was in college I decided that it was time to do the one thing I always wanted to do: be in a play. I tried out and won the second lead role in a one-act play during my senior year, and loved it. I’m glad that I took that step and added “been in a play” to the list of things I always wanted to try and DID.

Have you ever watched a play and thought, “I’d love to do that!” Well, here is your chance! Fort Mill Playhouse is currently holding auditions for “Play On” to be performed at Fort Mill Playhouse from September 17-19 and 25-26, 2009.

The play is to be directed by Fort Millian, Susan Capotosto, who is looking for 3 men, ages 20’s to 50’s, and 7 women, ages 18 to 50’s.

Auditions begin today, Sunday, July 26, from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. and again tomorrow, Monday, July 17, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. For more information you are welcome to call (803) 548-8102.

It’s bad enough that they are calling for rain most of the weekend – but do the weathermen (who are rarely right) really think there’s going to be snow on Sunday night?

Does Mother Nature realize that Sunday is March 1? And that, in my mind, March 1 is a little late for a snowstorm?

Despite the rainy weather, do you have any plans for the weekend? I already told you earlier about the Elonzo show in Rock Hill tomorrow night. The other big event this weekend is the final weekend of The Fantasticks at the Fort Mill Playhouse.

If you feel like heading to a museum, the Museum of York County (4621 Mount Gallant Road, Rock Hill, SC) is hosting “Africa Alive!” from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. tomorrow. During the event they will have traditional music, storytelling and crafts. An added treat: you can enjoy authentic Ethiopian food while you are there! Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for Seniors and $4 for kids age 4-17. All museum members receive $2 discount.

This weekend and next, the Fort Mill Playhouse is putting on a production of “The Fantasticks,” a musical which has the distinction of being the longest-running off-Broadway play running for forty-two consecutive years. That ’s a LOT of pancake makeup!

And now our own playhouse is spending the next two weekends showing us what made this musical make such a lasting impression. Tickets can be bought online (Adults: $15.00, Seniors (65 and over): $12.00; and Students: $12.00). The show will run beginning tonight through the end of the weekend (February 19-22) as well as next weekend (February 26-28). Tickets are somewhat limited given the short run, so buy your tickets now and enjoy the show!
