Tax Free Weekend! Huzzah!

This weekend, August 7-9, 2009, is a tax-free shopping weekend in South Carolina. For those days only, all clothing (including hats, scarves, hosiery, and handbags), shoes, school supplies (including pens, pencils, paper, binders, notebooks, books, bookbags, lunchboxes, and calculators), computers (including software, printers and printer supplies), bed and bath products (including towels, blankets, bed spreads, bed linens, sheet sets, and comforter sets) can all be had without the hassle of paying sales tax. I am pleased to tell you about a new website dedicated to promoting locally owned businesses here in the Fort Mill area. Obviously in this economy, everyone suffers, but it seems that the local Mom ‘n’ Pop shops seem to suffer the most since they aren’t backed by huge corporate dollars. We’ve seen on the news how a variety of local businesses have shut down or come perilously close to shutting down over the past year due to financial difficulties.
