MorningStar Makeover

This just in:

Choate Construction Company, based in Charlotte, has been selected as the general contractor for the planned rehabilitation of the deserted Heritage USA tower in Fort Mill. Long-time residents remember that under the management of Jim Bakker’s PTL ministry, based in Fort Mill, the building was intended to become a thriving hotel. However, upon the collapse of Heritage USA, the unfinished building fell into disrepair and eventually became a blight on the horizon once the Regent Park division of homes was built over the site of the Heritage amusement park grounds years later.

MorningStar Ministries, the group which now owns the building, plans to turn it into a 204-unit age-restricted community called Heritage Towers. Long in the planning, MorningStar has already been taking reservations, with prospective tenants paying deposits approaching $1,000 to hold the units until they’re completed.

  1. Glad to see that Heritage Towers will be completed and made an asset for the community. What a wonderful idea to turn it into residences for seniors. From the architect’s renderings, it certainly looks like it will be a beautiful building.

Let’s also hope that the owners & developers who own the now closed Upper Room building at the former Heritage USA will also restore it to its former glory. It is definitely a building worth saving and the owners certainly would be prudent to actively pursue restoring it or selling it to someone who will restore and reopen it. I cannot imagine it being torn down. This would be almost sacreligious!
